Above all, they will have a lot of fun! - Lara Jakes, lead teacher and founder of ArtsForce Academy, trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and has almost 20 years of performing arts teaching and directing experience. - Lara has two postgraduate degrees in the teaching of dance, drama and English, as well as a teaching qualification with the International Dance Teachers' Association. - She has taught in a variety of primary and secondary schools, most recently in Epsom and Brighton College, and has directed and choreographed close to 30 major productions. Testimonials: Lara’s commitment to seeing my daughter, and all her students, achieve their very best knows no bounds. (Emily R) My son lacked confidence to start with, but after having performance opportunities under Lara’s direction, he developed into an assured actor who has gone on to perform at Edinburgh Fringe and secure several leading roles in university productions. (Kitty B) Everyone has a teacher that was a huge inspiration to them. For my girls, that teacher was Lara Jakes. (Katie D) “Ms Jakes was my favourite teacher I ever had - her openness & strong work ethic made her teaching style superior to most!” (Stan P) “Ms Jakes is one of those teachers who really cares about her craft and really cares about her students, and I could not recommend her enough!” (Jasmine S) “Ms Jakes transformed my education and gave me confidence in my work. She celebrates all individuals and all ways of working.” (Helly P) “Ms Jakes’ talent for both dance and practical drama was clear in the outcomes of the shows. However, what was most important was the inviting environment she built, as well as the opportunities for creative expression.” (Grace F-M) “Ms Jakes is very positive and always makes sure her class is a judgement-free zone where everyone feels comfortable to express themselves. Some of the best friends I made were in her drama classes and rehearsals - we always reminisce about our drama lesson days.” (Jake C) “Ms Jakes created an incredibly accommodating space for me to get in touch with my dramatic instincts and improve my skills in all aspects of performance.” (Isaac B-K) “Ms Jakes truly is one of those rare teachers who changed my life. She nurtured both my passion and my confidence, and I will always be deeply grateful to have had the privilege of being taught by her.” (Bella C)

Above all, members of Monmouth Dance Summer School will have a lot of fun! At 30 years since the first ever Monmouth Dance Summer School, masterminded by Rhyan Parry and enthusiastically attended by Lara Jakes (in Year 8!), it seems fitting that Habs alumni Rhyan and Lara should reunite and form a partnership with Haberdashers' Monmouth Dance Department to run Dance Summer School: Reignited 2025! Between them, they have almost 60 years of performing arts teaching experience! LARA JAKES BA (Hons), PGCE, PGDip Performing Arts Educator & Practitioner Founder of ArtsForce Academy - Lara trained at Trinity Laban after building a strong foundation in dance and choreography at Haberdashers' Monmouth, and has nearly 20 years’ experience in teaching, directing, and choreography. - She believes in the power of performing arts education to foster confidence, creativity, and a deeper understanding of self and others. - Committed to ongoing development, she studies diverse performing arts styles and, as well as a PGCE (Drama/English) and PGDip (Community Dance), holds teaching qualifications from the IDTA and Yoga Alliance. - Lara has taught drama and dance across primary and secondary schools, and led large performing arts departments in Epsom and Brighton College. - She has directed and choreographed nearly 30 major productions. RHYAN PARRY BA(Hons), PGCE Dance Educator, Movement Practitioner & Choreographer Founder of RHYALITY DANCE: Real Dance 4 Real People - With a long career in education and leadership, Rhyan has been setting trends, not following them—designing an accredited Agored Cymru Qualification, 'Skills for Employment, Training & Personal Development through Dance', is just one example. - Rhyan's ethos centres around 'Physical Literacy' and the enjoyment and intrinsic benefits of 'Moving the Body’. - Rhyan adopts a holistic and multidisciplinary approach: ‘with the students; for the students’. - Her core principles of teaching and training take root in Rudolf Laban’s systematic analysis of movement. Rhyan pursued extensive training through the Laban Guild and Keep Fit Association, as well as developing a breadth of skills in a plethora of dance styles, fitness trends and teaching methods, notably with Associate teaching qualifications through the IDTA. - She has lost count of the abundance of dance performances and events that she has conceived, choreographed and produced!
